I have used Blue Host previously and I was not happy with their services. They do have one of the best customer supports with fast responses, but they lack the security within their own servers. When I had Blue Host, their speeds were average compared to other web hosting companies.

The price is relatively high, however for some it’s worth it because they give you $50 ad credits at places like Yahoo and they give you a free domain. When my website was hosted with blue host, it had been hacked twice and the error was not within my own website itself. There is a big problem within the blue host services. They have a case sensitive file system. That means that Contact.php is not the same as contact.php. It may be a small error, but it could go unnoticed and can cause people to get angry over not finding a solution to the problem.

But, there are people who may like their hosting services.

There are many different web hosting companies around, but you have to find the one that is right for you. You may want to look at various websites that have various comparisons of web hosting companies with host ratings. Be sure to look into the web hosting company before choosing one. There may be a certain feature that you need, but didn’t end up getting because of the hosting plan you chose, so be sure to compare before buying.

You should definitely choose Just Host if you like the ease of cpanel’s features.

I have recently switched to Webalized Hosting Solutions because they only place 10 users on every server. So, the speeds will be off the charts due to the low amount of CPU usage.

If you are very limited to the amount of money you can spend and are just starting a website, I would recommend using Web Hosting Pad or ByetHost. Web Hosting pad is the best cheap and reliable web hosting out there I’ve found. They do put many users on a single server, but you may not need that great of a speed if you are just starting up a website. Byethost is pretty cheap as well, but they have limited features in their hosting and may not be good for the long run unless you intend to stay there.

There are many web hosting companies around, but which one is the best? I would have to say that the best web hosting company depends on what you really want. Whether you are looking for good support, speed, or features, every host is different.

In my opinion, the best web hosting company overall is JustHost. When I used their hosting, their speeds were fast and they had a 5-star support. They give a vast amount of bandwidth and disk space. But, the thing I liked most about their service is that even though it was cheap, they still had all the features you need to easily create or develop a website. The best part about Just Host is that they always have great deals going on and when you first sign up for hosting with them, you get a free domain.

InMotion is a very reliable web hosting solution as well. They have the best support I have used from any web hosting company. Their prices are a bit larger than JustHost, but they do have many of the same features. Their server speeds are very good most of the time and the servers have a 99% up time. So, you never have to worry about your website being down due to server issues.

Host gator is one of the most popular and very prominent hosting providers, but their speeds aren’t as good as you think. I have used host gator previously and I would like to review host gator for your benefit. Host gator does provide fairly cheap pricing.

Therefore, your speeds will reduce. During my time with host gator, there were times when my websites loading would take longer than usual. This was happening because host gator is getting more popular every day, so there are more hosting accounts being placed on a single server which causes the CPU load to increase, resulting in a slower loading speed. I personally would rather go for a service with fewer users on a single server or purchase a reseller account if you can afford it. Host gator may not have the fastest speed, but they do have the best support out of any web hosting company I have been with. They have faster support and they review your problems quickly and give an appropriate response. If you don’t mind having decent speeds and cheap prices, but good quality support, go for host gator. But, if you want faster speeds, I recommend you look for a different web hosting service altogether unless you are just hosting a personal or simple website.

Many people may not be remember life without the internet but it was only back in 1990 when web hosting came to life as this was when Tim Berners Lee developed the initial program for the web. This was followed by a variety of programs and soon companies were developing web hosting services of their own and this has created the modern environment where there is a huge level of growth in hosting web sites. Web hosting may seem like a familiar term but before 1991, this term was unheard of, which means so was the internet. If you would like to study the growth of the internet, a great place for research is the internet itself which shows you how far it has developed.

It was in 1962 and through the eyes of J.C.R. Licklider that the genesis of the internet began at MIT. A whole host of articles were created by Licklider which shared his ideas about the Galactic Network which described computers being linked to each other, providing information resources that everyone could share. The Computer Science program at MIT was also known as the Advanced Research Project Agency [ARPA] and this was where Licklider was scheduled to visit. Whilst there, he would tell of his ideas and try to convince people there was a demand for this form of networking computers.

After the Russians launched Sputnik, their artificial satellite, there was a huge need for the Americans to keep pace with their Soviet counterparts. The first form of computer networking came through packet switching, which enabled data to be transferred as tiny packages through telephone lines which was a huge improvement over the previous form of utilizing circuit lines that were solid. Paul Baran invented the Hot Potato network design when he was trying to create a package that would ensure telecommunication data to be passed in the event of a nuclear war.

The progress of the internet continued apace and was benefited by computers being able to communicate with each other. It is fair to say that 1991 is a key year in internet history and although it was already around, its development was going to get much bigger. The National Science Foundation [NSF] played a massive role in this when they judged that there should be a lowering of the commercial limits placed on the web. This changed the internet and brought many new possibilities and advantages. E-commerce developed from this point and the rush of companies looking to be ready for the boom period was signing up in droves. HMTL was also the brainchild of Tim Berner Lee and he used the same technique to create URL, the uniform resource locator.

New features made it easier for the common person to use the system but equally, there was a drive to push technology further, so the setup became more complex in other ways. It was predicted by the business sector that the internet would boom and be a future hit and many organizations attempted to capitalize on this.

As the internet was starting out, it was expensive to host a web site but this is no longer the case but although it has gotten cheaper, it is still very difficult for some to use. As computers have evolves, so has the internet. Equally, the business world has developed at a greater pace with the addition of web host providers and computers.

There are statistics available to state that more than 35,000 businesses host over 100 websites on the server they own. It is easy to see that there is huge growth with this level of competition, and in the time this article has been read, there have been probably hundreds more companies who have joined up also. A student by the name of Nicola Pellow created a line mode browser and this was to help others researching a specific topic to have somewhere to discuss. Listings of UDI, HTML and HTTP were provided by the server to enable this discussion. For machines that were not NeXt, browsers such as Cello or Mosaic were created to enable other users to access the internet. The World Wide Consortium came into being in 1994 when a number of companies joined to create a system of shared protocols that could be used on the Web and this moment can be seen as the true birth of the web.

Earlier versions had seen the use of a number of TCP/IP features which allowed users to network but at the time, it was not known what the potential for this setup was going to be. Recent IETF meetings have viewed these TCP/IET protocols with more praise and acceptance than previously and have acknowledged the advances since then. To enable this expansion, tools were needed and how best to enable this was the basis for much debate. As networking was a key issue, products to enable this were developed and this allowed users to be able to connect to the internet. At the time, this was the edge of what commercial possibilities stretched to but as more people got online in huge numbers, it was vital for people to have this service and the internet easily captured the interest of many ordinary people. The advances made by the internet were down to huge technological improvements.

This is why many Information Technology firms and trend setters, such as Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, IBM and many more have got into the internet industry and provides services, products and tools to better the service of web applications.

There is no doubt that the way the internet is used today is drastically different from its origins. It may have started off with Personal Computers onto the client server and then to the Peer to Peer [P2P] type network. There have been abundance of different features that came to life thanks to the internet and these include passing of information and data, communicating via email, being able to log on remotely and many other useful functions. It seems that if you want it you can have it but also bear in mind that the internet is still rapidly developing. With television and videos on the internet being the latest features, it may be hard to predict what is coming next on the internet but whatever it is, it should be interesting.

The history of we hosting started in 1990 when the first web program was written by Tim Berners Lee. A great number of programs followed with companies creating their own form of services to offer web hosting which has resulted in the modern scenario. Today there is a huge increase in the web hosting industry. Although the term web hosting is very common today, it meant nothing before 1991 and similarly, there no ideas of the internet at that time either. However, to get the best from modern web hosting it can be worthwhile to research the development of the internet and it has developed a lot. If you did not have websites to visit, what would you do online?

It was back in August of 1962 when J.C.R. Licklider of MIT introduced the ideas that went onto form the internet. Licklider created a lot of articles regarding the future and one of his main topics was about the Galactic Network which was based on millions of computers linked to each other providing information of many people to benefit from. When there, Licklider attempted to wow and detail the benefits that would come from networking and linking computers together.

A fact that may be of interest to many people comes from the development of the ARPA which was devised by militants in the same era that NASA was constructed. The first concept of computer networking was based on packet switching, and this allowed data to be sent via telephone lines in a tiny bundle as opposed to sending it via bulky circuit lines. This is what was set the cornerstone for what would later become the internet.

Following on from this, was the process that allowed computers to talk back and forth to each other and there is no doubt that 1991 was a pivotal year for the development of the internet. It was already around before then but this year was the base for the internet to grow into much bigger things. A major step came when the National Science Foundation] NSF] made a judgment that the web restrictions that prohibited commercial activity should be lifted. It was at the tail-end of 1991 that WWW or the World Wide Web started to be used by CERN and it incorporated Hyper Text Markup Language [HTML.] HTML was developed by Tim Berner Lee and it was linked to the website address or it’s Uniform Resource Locator [URL.] That’s a whole of abbreviations to learn but it is now synonymous with the location of addresses for websites and the World Wide Web.

Of course, as the internet grew, complexities followed but it was offering many new benefits and the business world was not slow in predicting a positive future nor was it slow in cashing in on it.

Hosting a web site was not cheap in the formative years but the price is now affordable, even if understanding everything may be a bit tricky for some users. Nowadays, it is fair to say that there are a similar number of companies offering internet access as there are providing services for hosting web sites. As computer and technology has grown, so has the internet. Business too has dramatically changed and more use of computers and web hosts has brought about these changes.

Today there are over 35,000 businesses that play host to in excess of 100 websites through their server. The WWW has had many programs but the first was a hypertext editor which made its debut in the NeXt machine. This progress was brought about by Nicola Pellow, a student, who brought about the line mode browser. Its main purpose was to provide a platform for discussion by people looking to research certain areas and this was made possible by the server publishing details of HTTP, HTML and UDI. Further progress was enabled when internet browsers such as Mosaic or Cello were created which allowed people to operate and search on machines which were not the NeXT model.

Recent years much debate and praise to issues stemming from TCP/ICP protocols and its development, with much of the praise coming from the IETF meeting. More tools were required to continue the progress and further debate and conjecture about how best to facilitate expansion was discussed. An internet connection was vital and a number of easy to use products were created with this aim in mind. At times it seemed as though there were restrictions on how far the commercial activity would go but as numbers of people using the internet grew, the importance of the service developed. The more the internet became integral to everyday life, the more developments and technological change had to develop to make it all possible.

This can be seen in the way that many IT organizations such as Microsystems, Sun, Microsoft or IBM have moved into the internet market with an array of products, tools and other items to assist the development of the internet and web applications. There has been a development in the way that web servers are providing access to customers and the web pages that they need to visit, in addition to a large range of additional services and features.

The internet and how it works has changed dramatically over time and it is now viewed as a Peer to Peer [P2P] network, which has developed from the previous Personal Computer [PS] and client server states. There are a multitude of features that can be undertaken on the internet and they include distributing data and information, contacting others by email, logging remotely and much more. If you can think of it, it has probably already been done, yet there are still many more transformations to come from the internet. Concepts like internet telephony and television are very recent additions and who can say what form the internet will be in when it comes to a decade or so from now.

Web hosting began in the year 1990 when Tim Berners Lee wrote the first web program. Many other programs were written thereafter, and many companies came up with their own web hosting service which made possible the present scenario, where there is tremendous growth in the arena of web hosting. It is also interesting to note that prior to 1991, nothing called web hosting was known to the humankind. This invariably means that there was no concept of the internet in 1991 as well. Such has been its development! Technology has developed a lot, and the internet is the biggest development after the radio and the television. It is again worthwhile to note that internet is powered by more than 50 million websites, which form its core base.

The Erstwhile Web Hosting Period

The concept of the Internet had been brought forward in August, 1962, by J.C.R. Licklider, at the MIT. He wrote many articles where he saw a vision of the concept of Galactic Network, which connected millions of computers with each other, where the resources were common for everybody to use. He would try to impress the successors of the need to develop the concept of computer networking.

An interesting point to mention here is that the militants developed the ARPA at the same time as they developed NASA, in order to find a manner in which the United States could make pace to catch up with USSR in the space arena after launching Sputnik, an artificial Russian satellite. Computer networking initially meant packet switching, based on the concept that it would be possible to send data through telephone lines as small packages rather than using the solid lines of circuit. In this manner, the connections would be used only when information was traveling through it, which would free up space on the system for the computer to perform more activities. Later on, while working on a project for allowing the telecommunication system to even survive a nuclear war, Paul Baran would come up with the Hot Potato networking design, which would lay the base for what would come to be known as the internet.

The next step was to enable the computers to communicate with each other. 1991 was a landmark year for the foundation of internet. The internet was an entity already, for sure, but a stage was set for the internet to get bigger. It began when the NSF [National Science Foundation] decided that it was high time the commercial restrictions on the web were lifted. This opened up a world of possibilities for the internet. Late in 1991, people at CERN introduced WWW [World Wide Web] to the world, which incorporated the HTML [Hyper Text Markup Language], developed by Tim Berner Lee, which used specifications for the website URL [Uniform Resource Locator]. Besides providing the world a host of abbreviations for various terms, it became the most common standard for location of website addresses.

The business sector forecasted that internet would have a great future, and they capitalized on it.

Web hosting was pretty expensive in the earlier days, but now it is quite reasonable, though a bit complex for a common man to decipher. The beginning saw big companies renting space on their server, and this has become a business now. The internet has evolved with the evolution in computers. The way business is conducted has seen a drastic change with the introduction of computers and web hosting facilities.

In fact, as you read this, 100′s of companies have already been added to the list. The first program for the WWW was of a hypertext editor which was executed in the NeXT machine. A line mode browser was used at that point of time, designed by Nicola Pellow, a student. The server published the specifications of HTTP, UDI and HTML in order to facilitate discussion by people who research on the given topic. For accessing the internet, browsers like Cello, Mosaic, etc.

Prior to this, there had been publications of various TCP/IP related features which enabled networking without even knowing the potential that this protocol had for the future. In the past couple of years, most of the discussions at the IETF meeting gave a lot of importance to topics related to the TCP/IP protocols and the manner in which it could be expanded. Some basic products meant for networking were developed for this purpose, which provided an internet connection. These were the limits to which commercial efforts went. But when the users of the internet grew substantially, it became an essential service and the internet captured the imagination of the common man. Technology developments had a big role to play in making this possible.

Some of the Information Technology major companies like IBM, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, etc. are getting into the market of the internet, and many tools, products, etc. have been developed to improve web applications.

The hardware manufacturers have also built power servers to catalyze the growth of the industry of web hosting. Various features that have been made possible by the internet include sharing of data and information, emailing, remote logging and a host of other features. You name it, you have it! However, keep in mind that this transformation is still in progress. Internet television and internet telephony are other features which have been developed of late. It will be very difficult to say to what level the internet will have reached after, say, a decade!

Blogging has become large and very much influential. It is utilized by all sorts of people, varying from the politicians, to actors, the misfits, to youngsters in your local area.

Each blogger has their own motivation to write and blogs come in a whole host of styles:

• Personal use blogs
• Media engineered
• Topic and issue specific blogs such as food, fashion, politics, films etc.

There is unlimited scope for blogs. Many normal people are becoming stars in a short space of time and earning a lot of money by blogging. This makes many people want to write blogs, particularly if they hold candid opinions.

There is no doubt a high point of blogging is that it can bring in money. A steady income can be obtained and it can be possible to turn it into a major job and earn large sums of money.

Whatever blog you want to write, you would need to find the correct host.

Here are the three main types of blog hosting:

• A firm who provides web hosting

The first two offer free and paid for services and you will need to know what is best for you before signing up with regards your needs and requirements. This can include what personal preferences you have, do you want total control of your site, do you need to mend it to your total requirements? If this is the case then you need a blog host provider that provides options with no limits and many features for blogging.

The free services have obvious limitations and you get more from a paid for service is common in most industries but this is not always the case for blog hosts. You can obtain a lot of exposure from a free provider as they can be found at the top of many search engine findings.

It is not wise to just sign up with any host though and paid for services have their merits. A lot of the plus points come from being in complete control of your blog and being able to determine the look, feel, style and much more, if you are competent in HTML and encoding.

Find out what Secure Sockets Layer is and how it can benefit you:

With people having the ability to read the information of other folk, the Internet is not as safe as it once was. Hackers are people who are able to uncover the information that people pass on websites. It is also possible for them to get hold of confidential data like credit card details or passwords. Many hackers also have the ability to offer their own version of another person’s website and this can be hosted on their own server. This is done to fool customers who may be unaware of these issues. One way of combating these hackers is by using the Secure Sockets Layer or SSL.

Since 1994 when it was developed by Netscape, the SSL has developed into a security technology that is now recognized as an standard across the world. All OF this adds up to making sure that any information that is passed between parties remains secure. The security can be seen the padlock emblem that appears on screen. Many e-Business companies appreciate this opportunity to safeguard the information of their customers as well as ensuring the confidentiality of any transactions that take place

Learn about the SSL Certificate:

A firm will be asked many different questions about their site and identity if they want to have the SSL present on their server. This is facilitated by the provision of two cryptographic keys which revolves around the Public and the Private keys. Of the two keys, the Public Key should not be a furtive. The key can be found contained in a CSR data file which hosts the date. After his, the user has to have their CSR submitted. Another SSL certificate is provided with all the users details and this enables the user to use the SSL. The Private Key is then used to match the information of the SSL certificate. This process is offered to allow the web server to establish a secure link between the customer and your very own website.

Although these issues can be troublesome, customers are unable to see any of the issues and protocols. There is the provision of the key logo to their browser which guarantees a user they are covered by SSL and an encrypted session. On the whole, SSL certificates are granted to respected and accountable individuals and companies.

There are also other details pertaining to the Certification Authority, the firm that provides the Certificate. If you have a SSL certificate, when you attempt to connect to a secure site, this will find the SSL certificate which is used by the site. Similarly, the expiration date of the other site will be examined. If at any point an error is returned, a warning message will be provided to the user.

There is no doubt that the golden padlock has been accepted by many customers. It is viewed as a symbol of trust for the site. There is little doubt that the e-Business company can use this as an ideal opportunity to encourage trust and additional expenditure from customers and also turn visitors into customers. There are numerous shopping carts or sites that take information from customers and a large percentage utilize the SLL certificates.

Functions that are new to users:

Many users may be aware of the SSL v2 version but the SSL v3 is a much improved version. The SHA-1 based cipher has been added and this offers assistance with regards to authenticating certificates. SSL v2 had some flaws like when cryptographic keys were utilized for both the authenticating messages and encryption. In addition to this, SSL v2 did not provide any level of protection for the handshake, leaving it open to “man in the middle downgrade attacks” occurring without anyone noticing.

Another improvement has come with the Transport Layer Security taking over from the Secure Sockets Layer. Today, it is common for SSL to utilize public and private key encryption that is able to provide a digital certificate.

• There is a need for offices that have intranet usage where information is being distributed to obtain an SSL certificate.

• For businesses that have a number of partners who share and provide information on an extranet system, having an SSL certificate is able to offer more protection from hackers.

• There is also a need to use SSL certificates to fully pass security and privacy requirements.

Some helpful information about purchasing SSL Certificates:

• Although the Certificate Authority is an extremely wide one, there is a need to consider your requirements and budget before choosing who to buy from. There are a lot of SSL certificate firms that are able to meet many price ranges. There are 22 separate their parties who can be found from checking the Open Directory Project and there are also well over 20 root certificates that can be found in Internet Explorer and Firefox.

• There was a survey undertaken by Netcraft in 2005 which set out to find the largest vendor that offers SSL certificates. This was followed in January 2007 when Security Space set out to undertake a similar project. These sites include Equifax represented by its GeoTrust subsidiary (www.equifax.com), VeriSign which was represented by the Thawte subsidiary (www.verisign.com), in addition to GoDaddy/Starfield (www.godaddy.com), Digicert (www.digicert.com) as well as Comodo (www.comodo.com).

The largest firm with a market share of 72% is Verisign and the next is Comodo which contains about 18% of the market share. This is followed by Geotrust that has just under 3.5% and then Entrust who have 2.5% of the market. The last company is GoDaddy which clocks in at around 1%. The remaining firms contain about 3 to 4% on average.

Find out about Secure Sockets Layer and how they can help you:

The World Wide Web is not as safe as it used to be which is due to the amount of data and information online that can be read by other people. There are a large number of people called hackers who uncover secret and confidential data about the people who visit your site. It is even possible for them to obtain information such as credit card details or passwords. Many hackers are able to offer a version of your own website and use this to trick other web users. Their version of your site can be hosted on their own server. This is done to obtain details from them. It is possible to battle these people and this is why SSL or Secure Sockets Layer was created.
Designed in 1994 by Netscape, SSL has become a security technology that is viewed as the standard around the world. It works by creating a link that is encrypted between the web server and the browser. This makes it possible to secure any information that travels between the browser and server. They also know that they have a duty to protect the confidentiality of any shopping that occurs online.

The Certificate for SSL:

Many questions will be asked about your firm and its identity and from here you can choose to run the SSL on your own web server. The public key does not allow backdoor entry or hidden methods. The key is held in a data file with the rest of your information; this data file is called a CSR, a Certificate Signing Request. The next task will be to submit this CSR. The CA will then go about verifying the information contained within the CSR and this will undertake the SSL Certificates process. This means a secure and coded link will be created between the visitors’ browser and your very own site.

They will be able to see they key symbol that will inform them that SSL encryption is providing a level of protection for them. If they wish to find out more details about the SSL certificate they can click on the lock icon which can be found in the right hand bottom corner of their screen. It is usually with people who can be held accountable and firms who are legally registered that these certificates are provided to.

If the browser of the visitor connects to the secured site, the SSL certificate will be unable to retrieve the SSL certificate from the site.

This has been taken on by many electronic business providers in an attempt to convince customers to shop with them. A whole host of shopping carts and commercial sites now offer shoppers the facility of securing their information through use of the SSL certificates. One thing to remember though is that if this information is then emailed to you, the information contained within the email is not secure.

Brand new functions:

There is an improved version of SSL v2 and it is called SSL v3. This version offers support for authenticating certificates and it now has SHA-1 based ciphers. It is true that some flaws were in SLL v2 such as when cryptographic keys were indistinguishable in addition to the authentication process for messages.

Another interesting progression has been TLS (Transport Layer Security) superseding SSL. There is no doubt that TLS has been heavily influenced by SSL and is viewed as a key player in Microsoft and Netscape browsers in addition to a whole host web serving products. Today, the SLL utilizes public as well as private keys to provide an encryption service from the RSA that allows users to have a digital certificate.

SSL Certificate, do you need one:

* Those who have online shopping facilities and accept credit cards require the SSL certificate to provide a level of security about customer information.

* If you process data like date of births, addresses, telephone numbers, licenses or ID numbers then as SSL certificate is required to process this securely.

* If anyone in your firm utilizes an extranet, the SSL certificate is an additional layer of security from those wanting to hack your site.

Beneficial data to consider when buying SSL Certificates:

* The need to balance budget with your requirements is an important factor in which SSL certificate you buy from the numerous providers. There are many different packages available at a whole host of prices. As with most industries though, the genre is dominated by a few firms battling on price.

* A survey undertaken in June of 2005 by Netcraft set out to find the names of the biggest providers of SSL certificates. This was backed up in 2007 when Security Space attempted a similar search. The top ranker was found to be Equifax, through its Geotrust arm (www.equifax.com), the next was VeriSign plus which utilized their Thawte subsidiary (www.verisign.com) as well as GoDaddy/Starfield (www.godaddy.com),, Comodo (www.comodo.com) and Digicert (www.digicert.com).

The largest market share is held by Verisign with about 72% market share with Comodo coming next with around 18%. Geotrust has around 3.4% market share and GoDaddy and Entrust contain about 1% and 2.5% of the market share. The remaining providers comprise about 3 or 4% on average of the market.
